Agnes Finnie - The Noble Witch

"Join us in a collective journey of ReMembering Agnes Finnie's legacy—a testament to resilience and autonomy in the face of chaos."

This is more than history; it's a movement. Inspired by ancient wisdom, we're crafting a future through the stories we choose to remember and tell. Join us in this journey of meaningful action and shared narratives.

Agnes Finnie - The Noble Witch An Edinburgh woman, accused of witchcraft in 1644, Agnes Finnie lived in the tenements of the Potterrow Port where she provided a service to her local community as the shopkeeper, money lender and healer.

A strong woman surviving in a man’s world, Agnes was resilient and didn’t suffer fools gladly. A danger in the eyes of the Kirk and state, she was used as a scapegoat to ease the pressure and tension building in the neighbourhood.

Refusing to be cowed, her arrest and trial saw her challenge the law and expose the hypocrisy of the Kirk. Condemned to death she remained ‘a rank witch.’

Welcome to our first ReMembering series - “Stories from the Edge of Chaos"

In this series, we delve into the lives of individuals who ventured beyond the safety of societal norms and danced with the tumultuous tides of chaos. These figures, often misunderstood and ostracised in their times, were trailblazers and pioneers, braving the unknown to bring back treasures of insight and innovation.

Our journey is not just a retrospective glance but a vital act of 'ReMembering.' By weaving their tales back into the fabric of our collective memory, we transform our meaning-making and perceptions of these characters and their traits, from outcasts to heroes, from subjects of fear to beacons of courage. They answered the call of the hero's journey, stepping into the realm of chaos—a place both special and magical, where true transformation occurs.

Each talk in our series will cast light on these remarkable journeys, examining the societal edges they pushed and the expansive spaces of chaos they explored. We will reclaim their stories with empathy, stripping away the stigma to recognise the bravery in their quests. Through their narratives, we will learn how their encounters with chaos are still resonant and relevant today, teaching us to embrace the full spectrum of our human experience.

Furthermore, we will reflect on how the Art of Memory works in the structuring of civilization, and how it’s evolved through the ReMembering of stories. In doing so, we are not just looking back; we are projecting forward a new way of honouring our collective journey into the future systems of order. Join us as we embark on this transformative ReMembering, finding wisdom in the chaos, and shaping our understanding of what it means to belong to a community that honours every step of the human experience. Let's come together & choose how we shape our own past/present/future.

"The new hero's journey is a collective one"
